2011 CITE MD Scholarship Award Recipient

Ashley Soto

              G.P.A.: 3.71
S
chool: University of Maryland Eastern Shore

My Name is Ashley Soto and I think I deserve this scholarship because I am a well-rounded student and I want to further my education a little more.  I believe that my involvement in school activities and desire to become highly active in college shows how dedicated I am to my school work.  I am very responsible at balancing my time between school and work.  Although it's my senior year and I have lots of work to get done, I am able to participate in a lot of extracurricular activates as well as work part time.  Unlike some students, I haven't slacked off because it's my senior year.  Some students think its ok to do whatever because they're almost done, I think otherwise.  They also think that when they finish high school they don't have to go to school anymore, but I believe in continued education.

There are other students who will go to college but think they are grown and lose sight of why they are in college.  I believe that if I can go to school, participate in different activities and go to work, then I think I can still do well in college.  I'll probably be taking care of myself more but I believe college will help develop my life skills as well as my education.

This scholarship should go to anyone who gives back to his or her community while managing to keep up with school work and the rest of their life.  I enjoy giving back to my community and I'm able to manage my time between school and work.  I wouldn't be applying to this scholarship if I knew I wasn't eligible for it.  I deserve this scholarship because I think college will give me more job opportunities and it will teach me how to be responsible.  This scholarship would help out tremendously because I want to attend school at Hampton University and I need the financial support.
